Virtual Bioinformatics Laboratory — Next Tutorial

Next meeting is on Wednesday the 14th April and the topic is “Computational Analysis of MeDIP Data” (Gareth Wilson)

DNA methylation represents an important epigenetic modification of mammalian genomes. Genome-wide data can be generated using the technique MeDIP-seq. In order to analyse this data, Batman (Bayesian Tool for Methylation Analysis) was developed. This algorithm, written by Thomas Down, is used to provide a quantitative estimation of absolute methylation values from MeDIP profiles.

In this tutorial I will look at the prerequisites for running Batman and discuss my experiences with using the tool. I will also briefly discuss a new methlyation analysis tool, currently in development, called Pipistrelle.
